In Dara Waldrons lecture on the moving image he asked us to choose an artwork a still image that incorporates a mirror - it can be a painting or a photograph. I liked Edward Monets work the bar at the folies- Bergeres Also an artist know as Vivian Maier interested me she took a lot of photographs of herself captured through the reflection of the mirror.

Tate Modern: Tacita Dean Film

I found her work very impressive. The scale of the pictures running through a film strip. This is just a video I found on youtube but I like how we can see the scale of her work as we see peoples shadows passing through this work and children playing. The children are interacting with the works. The flash image of the subject in different colours make you look at the image differently. I like how she has connected some of the previous photo's to the image seen now by using shapes./

James Coleman

I found this artist interesting as he is Irish and has studied art and design in Dublin. He produced these photographs in (1998-1999) in a similar method that we did for our elective which consisted of still images playing together in a form of video with a voice over narrative.The photographic images document a mise en scène that takes place in and around the rehearsal hall of a community school, where a group of young actors and dancers re-enact dance routines and dramatized scenes for a school project in stages of rehearsal. James Coleman’s art is literally histrionic: in other words, attuned to the mechanics and meaning of staged presence, a matter of theatrical projection and perspective on the part of actor and audience alike. It is almost like he wants you the onlooker to engage in this performance.

http://vimeo.com/7195148 I found this video on Mosse's website. The video itself is about 4 minutes long. Theatre of War was shot from one of Saddam Hussein's hilltop palaces situated in the mountains overlooking the River Tigris in central Iraq. It is a slow, virtually static video piece redolent of classical history painting. Audio was recorded at the official US military hand-over ceremony at the nearby city of Saniya. A mullah's prayer for unity among Arabs is spoken, after which the pan-Arab national anthem, Mawtini (My Homeland) is played, emphasizing Arab national solidarity and a pan-Arab territory. March 2009. Cinematography by Trevor Tweeten / Digital Color by Jerome Thelia Richard is interested on how not just photography fails us but our site ourselves. He became interested in this recent technology which was got rid of by Kodak. This technique was know as airacrome and was developed in the 1940's as a sort of camoflag detection technology. Showing dead folage highlighted in these blue colours and the healthier land showing as pink and reds in his landscape photography which couldn't be seen to eye. He found this inferred film as a great metaphor for thinking or representing of Congo's conflict. The bubble gum pink attracts you and makes you look longer at the photograph.
