Shots taken at the weekend

I decided to explore confind spaces in Castlerea where I am from.
 I started off exploring confind spaces in the household. Here are some of the images i came up with

I got someone to fit into a suitcase. It is a confind space where your body has to curl up to fit into it.

i like this image as it has a spooky atmosphere you can barely make out the outline of the figure.

 I  explored a confind space

 A old bridge that was covered over there is still evidence of a little gap showing, from the walkway.

 to capture these photo's above the opposite side of the pathway was a shallow river we climbed into a cave like structure to come out the other side and have our faces showing in the hollow. Some of the pictures of the process:

My sculpture in the process

I wanted to start making something so I researched artists and who I found most interesting was Eddie Critch who's sculpture fits into my brief - of confind spaces. He explores creepy things trapped in areas such as dolls  and mannequin parts. Below are some of his works i find the most interesting

then i came up with my own ideas from there of a sculpture of a hand, materials would consist of wire and would look something like this :

I am yet to complete the second hand which will be placed under the glass bowl.

Bernord Leitner- Tonraum 

Sound Spaces are not just spaces in which sound can be heard. Rather, it is sound itself that creates the space and its special qualities. Therefore the experience of hearing not only enables us to experience the space around us, they can also make it possible to experience physical space as an “inner” space.

Alyson Shotz 

there are series of photo's of this sculpture which shows it confind to the comparatively small space in  but then then in the corner you can see it breaks through a wall and spills out into a large space

I took pictures in my apartment of my housemate's on their own my idea was touching on claustrophobia in spaces that give the impression that they are confined to that space/ area. I also tried capturing her in a hotpress. I had an idea of the poses i wanted to capture and noted them in my diary which is seen below:

 here are some stills i captured. 

I took some of the images i found interesting and scratched into them and then apllied blue paint (this use of colour was inspired by prints that were made by Yves Klein)

Another thing i added to the wall was pictures i found interesting that i printed off that showed confind spaces at its best such as an unborn child in their mothers stomach, a dead, slums in foreign countries, cells ect. I displayed by cutting the images into strips and layering them in different ways into a white sheet i was influenced by the work of the artist Wayne Byran

 then i took one of my images and did the same thing which gives the illusion of a cell and being confind

Elaine Riordan interest in architecture comes across in her sculptor of high rises buildings. She refers to the chinese culture by the use of her red stars which can be seen on houses in China. I like her clean lines and the modern aspect of it the sculpture stands out on it's own.

Encounter No.4 by Alex Scott This is one of my favourite pieces as i think it best represents the chinese culture. the task they had to take on was to create a piece of work relevant to there stay in China. As a viewer not knowing there task it is clear it has chinese influence. The piece itself is simply beautiful.
